FLTRP Achieves Fruitful Results on the 2017 BIBF

On August 27th, the five-day 24th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) came to a successful conclusion. During this BIBF, FLTRP not only utilized the opportunity of the book fair to communicate with their partners and to discuss cooperation, but also successfully signed several important contracts, held meetings and forums and achieved fruitful results.


The largest number of events held and attended over the years

During these short 5 days of the BIBF, FLTRP organized 10 events full of variety including international partners reception, new book launch ceremonies and signing ceremonies. On the 22nd, the Shareholders' Agreement Signing Ceremony and Founding Ceremony of Innova Press Ltd which is co-funded by FLTRP, Hujiang Education & Technology and New Oriental Group were held at the building of FLTRP. The three major English education giants join hands in strength to going global, which has attracted great attention in the industry. On 23rd, FLTRP signed with Springer Nature Group for the first batch of "Key Concepts in Chinese Thought and Culture Series" (English version) and also held the new book launch ceremony of "Key Concepts in Chinese Thought and Culture" of multi-language versions. This kind of collaboration has become another example of international cooperation in promoting the Chinese ideology, academic research and culture all over the world. On the very same day, the International Partners Reception was hosted at the exhibition stand of FLTRP, which attracted more than 100 new and old friends from 36 partners. Everyone talked about friendship and development, and offered suggestions for future cooperation.


During the period of Beijing International Book Fair, The Children's Publishing Center of FLTRP and "Huwen" Chinese Translation Studio also held respectively "King of the Chinese animal novel", "New book launch ceremony of Shen Shixi and his favorite animal novels, who is one of the winners on the Writers Rich List", "The most suitable English enlightenment roadmap for Chinese children - Dads from Ivy League talk about English enlightenment", "The only long masterpiece of a master, published after 65 years of the seal—New book launch ceremony and reading sharing session of The Defector of Siegfried Lenz", "Click on the hard understand point—Thomas and his friends' bilingual enlightenment story session" and other activities.


Besides, as the main planner and participant, at the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Publishing Forum of the 15th Beijing International Book Festival, FLTRP held four signing ceremonies for the copyright output of many books and also for co-establishing "China Theme Editorial Department" with partners from France, Poland, Bulgaria and Lebanon.

In addition, several FLTRP's leaders attended many events during this book fair and delivered "the voice of FLTRP" on multiple occasions. President Cai Jianfeng delivered a keynote speech entitled "Belt and Road: a New Internationalization Phase of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press" at the High-Level Forum of International Publishing Enterprises, and elaborated on the mission of "presenting China to the world and making the world understand China" of FLTRP. Fan Xiaohong, Vice President of FLTRP and Zhang Siying, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of FLTRP, also attended the China Book International Foreign Consultants Seminar and the 2017 Beijing International Publishing Forum and communicated in-depth with domestic and foreign experts on topics like "language publication in the digital age", "Belt and Road Initiatives and international cooperation and publication".

The largest volume of trade deals ever

During this BIBF, through the efforts of rights managers, FLTRP reached 56 agreements on copyright output and cooperative publishing. Compared with previous years, the number of copyright output varieties increased significantly. The types of output books are mainly related to Chinese subjects and Chinese language learning, including Key Concepts in Chinese Thought and Culture, Insights into Chinese Culture, Discover China and Stories of Chinese People’s Livies and so on. The partners are also more diversified, with "Belt and Road" as main countries, but there are also newly acquainted partners. FLTRP has created a new record in the history of BIBF both in the output variety and in the number of cooperative countries.


In regard to the cooperation mode, except for the simple copyright trade, FLTRP is also moving forward to the direction of deeper cooperation. After the establishment of "China-Theme Editorial Department" in Bulgaria, during this BIBF, FLTRP cooperated likewise with other publishing houses such as the Bibliotheque de L'Image of France and the Academic Publishing House Dialog of Poland, in order to establish "China-Theme Editorial Department" in France and in Poland. Therefore, the overseas arrangement of localization operation is gradually formed.

The most intensive visit of "Belt and Road" countries in history

The intensive visit of "Belt and Road" partners has become the biggest feature of FLTRP in this year's exhibition. During the book fair, FLTRP received delegations from Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Albania, Belarus, Sri Lanka which are all "Belt and Road" countries, including the Deputy Minister of Information of Belarus and President of the Book Publishing and Dissemination Association of Hungary. Through various forms of conversations, FLTRP enhanced mutual understanding with others and explored the direction and the mode of future publishing and cooperation.

It is worth mentioning that on the 22nd at the award ceremony of the 11th "Special Contributions to Chinese Books", all the three candidates recommended by FLTRP—Bulgarian publisher Lyuben Iliev Kozarev, sinologist Petko Todorov Hinov and Albanian Translator Iljaz Spahiu—won the award of "Special Contributions to Chinese Books". These three winners also visited FLTRP during the BIBF and participated in various activities organized by FLTRP. As an "expert card" of FLTRP, they have well broadcast the achievements of the cooperation between FLTRP and the "Belt and Road" countries.


FLTRP showed frequently its appearance in various activities during this BIBF's period and expanded continuously its "circle of friends" among the "Belt and Road" countries. This achievement is not only a result of many years' accumulation in the field of international cooperation but also stemmed from FLTRP's mission which is "recording human civilization and bridging different cultures". FLTRP will take this book fair as an opportunity to continue to implement thoroughly the internationalization strategy and the "Belt and Road" Initiative and to strive to obtain even more gratifying achievements in the field of international publishing and cooperation.
