On October 28th, 2014, the Chinese Culture Communication and Translation Network (hereinafter referred to as the "Network", www.cul-trans.net/en), and Words of Fire (Serbian Version) by Jidi Majia were successfully launched in the China Guest-of-honor Pavilion during the 59th Belgrade International Book Fair. The launch is jointly sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) and Brcko Literature Club.
President Cai Jianfeng of FLTRP mentioned in his speech, “During its 35-year history, FLTRP has been sticking to its mission of ‘recording human civilization and bridging different cultures’. The Network provides translation, copyrights trade, data support and other services to writers, translators and publishing houses both at home and abroad. To construct such an online platform is a significant step for FLTRP in the digital era.”
President Cai also noted, “Jidi Majia is an eminent poet and writer of the Yi nationality whose poetry, combined with his thoughts of nationality and humanistic care, tells to the world the Chinese history and the culture of ethnic minority Yi in China. Although it is the first time that FLTRP takes part in the Belgrade International Book Fair, it has yielded fruitful results, among which is the publication of the Serbian version of Words of Fire.”
Mr. Xu Zhengming, Deputy Director of Publication Department of SAPPRFT (State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television), emphasized during his speech that the Chinese government attached great importance to the development and application of new technology and new media. Traditional media and new media should be integrated in order to multiply their respective advantages in the age of Internet. The launch of the Chinese Culture Communication and Translation Network is a great example which builds a platform to attract talents, integrate resources, and combine traditional and new media for the development of the translation, communication and exchanges of Chinese and foreign cultures.
FLTRP, the founder of the Network, is not only a leading name in China’s foreign language publishing but has achieved outstanding results in international cooperation. The publishing of Words of Fire (Serbian Version) is a good example of cooperation between Chinese and Serbian publishers. Milenic, director of Brcko Literature Club and translator of the Serbian version of Jidi Majia’s poems, recalled his history with Jidi Majia’s poetry. He remarked, “Jidi Majia is not only a Chinese poet but a poet for the world”. He hoped that Serbian readers would get to know more about Chinese poets and their works from reading Jidi Majia.
President Cai presented to Milenic the first certificate as a signed translator of the Network, and all the attendees signed their names on the scroll to announce the launch of the Network. Mr. Wu Hao, Managing Director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Publishing of FLTRP, together with Mr. Miranick, read one of Jidi Majia’s poems Folk Song in their own mother languages, unfolding to the audience the charm of Chinese poetry and literature translation.
